Dr. Michael H. Chaitin is the Scientific Review Officer for the Biology of the Visual System (BVS) study section. He has a Ph.D. degree in molecular biophysics from Florida State University. He conducted his doctoral research in photoreceptor/RPE cell biology at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA and had postdoctoral training at both Yale University and UCLA. Dr. Chaitin held faculty positions at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami and also at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth, continuing his studies of photoreceptor and retinal biology. His research was supported by grants from the National Eye Institute, Fight for Sight – Prevent Blindness, and the National Retinitis Pigmentosa Foundation. Dr. Chaitin subsequently came to CSR to oversee the review of grant applications focused on retinal and ocular biology and disease.
