Dr. Robert Freund is Chief of the AIDS and AIDS Related Research IRG. Prior to this position he was the Scientific Review Officer for CSR’s Virology B study section and served as CSR Training Coordinator, responsible for SRO training activities for both new and continuing staff.

Dr. Freund earned his Ph.D. at Harvard University and did postdoctoral studies at Harvard Medical School, studying molecular virology. Before coming to CSR, he was an assistant professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. His research focused on tumor induction, using the DNA tumor virus, polyomavirus, and signal transduction and cell cycle regulation in tissue culture systems. He also organized the virology section of the medical school microbiology course and taught graduate courses in virology and signal transduction.
