Dr. Karin Helmers is the Scientific Review Officer (SRO) for the Societal and Ethical Issues in Research and the Risk, Health and Healthcare Fellowship study sections.

She has also been the SRO for the Small Business Innovation Research applications and the Nursing Science: Children and Families study section. Before coming to CSR, she directed the Neuroscience and Sensory Conditions Program at the National Institute of Nursing Research. She received a Ph.D. in medical psychology from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, where she studied the psychosocial correlates to cardiovascular responses. Before coming to NIH, she was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at McGill University in Montreal, Canada and was an assistant professor in the Graduate Department of Exercise and Health Science at York University in Ontario, Canada with funding from the Medical Research Council of Canada.
