Dr. Balasundaram has previously served as the SRO for the Nuclear and Cytoplasmic Structure/Function and Dynamics Study Section (NCSD), and the Intercellular Interactions Study Section (ICI). In addition to his SRO duties, he serves as a Referral Officer in CSR’s Division of Receipt and Referral. Prior to joining CSR, Dr. Balasundaram served as a senior scientist and group leader at the Institute for Molecular and Cellular Biology, Singapore, where his research group investigated mechanisms of nuclear and nucleolar transport. During his postdoctoral training at the National Institutes of Health, he studied the genetics and regulation of Polyamine biosynthesis in budding yeast, and the mechanism of retrotransposition in fission yeast. Dr. Balasundaram received his Ph.D. from the University of Delhi, India, for his investigations on the biosynthesis and regulation of polyamines in Mycobacteria. Prior to his Ph.D., he was a lecturer in agricultural chemistry at the Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences, Allahabad, India.
