Dr. Hunnicutt received his Ph.D. in cell biology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where he studied cell-cell adhesion events that occur during Chlamydomonas mating.
He did his post doctoral training at the University of Connecticut Health Science Center in Farmington. There, he researched the events of fertilization as well as sperm physiology. Dr. Hunnicutt spent the next 14 years at the Population Council in New York City, where he became a senior scientist involved in projects pertaining to both male and female reproduction. The principal focus of his investigations was to understand the molecular underpinnings that convert nonfunctional sperm into gametes capable of swimming and fertilization to pursue new therapies for infertility and to identify targeting sites for developing novel male contraceptives.
