Dr. Alexey Belkin Scientific Review Officer Arthritis, Connective Tissue and Skin Study Section Dr. Alexey M. Belkin is the Scientific Review Officer for CSR’s Arthritis, Connective Tissue and Skin (ACTS) study section. He received PhD in cell biology from Moscow State University and Cardiology Research Center in Russia and did his postdoctoral studies at the University of North Carolina. He led research group as principal investigator at the American Red Cross and the University of Maryland. His research interests focused on understanding the interactions of cells with the extracellular matrix and adhesion-mediated signaling. Belkin discovered new components of muscle cell-matrix adhesions, aciculin and beta 1D integrin, and characterized non-canonical function of the crosslinking enzyme transglutaminase 2 in integrin-mediated adhesion and signaling. His studies were supported by National Institutes of Health, American Heart Association, Muscular Dystrophy Association, and Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund. Dr. Belkin joined CSR in 2015.
