Dr. Rajiv Kumar is the Chief of Musculoskeletal, Oral and Skin Sciences (MOSS) Integrated Review Group at the Center for Scientific Review.

He supervises a staff of nine Scientific Review Officers. MOSS comprises seven regular study sections and five small business review panels that review approximately 2,500 grant applications each year. Prior to this, he was Scientific Review Officer for CSR’s Electrical Signaling, Ion Transport and Arrhythmias Study Section in the Cardiovascular and Respiratory Sciences IRG. Dr. Kumar received his Ph.D. in chemistry from Kanpur University and Central Drug Research Institute, India, where he studied the cholinergic regulation of cardiac contractility. He had postdoctoral training in the Department of Pediatrics at Emory University, Atlanta. Before coming to NIH, he was Research Director of the Todd Franklin Cardiac Research Laboratory at the Department of Pediatrics, Emory University. His research interests were focused on the regulation of ionic currents in heart cells. He is known for his research on the regulation of calcium current by cGMP in heart cells.
