Dr. Maria Nurminskaya is the Scientific Review Officer for the Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Sciences and the Small Business study sections. She received her Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from Moscow State University (Russia), and conducted postdoctoral training in developmental and cellular biology at Tufts University, where she specialized in embryonic skeletal and ocular development. Among her positions, Dr. Nurminskaya was a senior scientist at CytoCure biotech, designing novel strategies for melanoma treatment. Before joining CSR in 2014, she was an associate professor of biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine. Her basic and applied research centered on molecular and cellular mechanisms of cell differentiation and on stem cell-based tissue engineering. Her research was supported by funding from NIH and private foundations including the Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund and Charles King Trust.
