After receiving his Ph.D. in pharmacology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, Dr. Shelness completed post-doctoral training in the Laboratory of Cell Biology at The Rockefeller University in New York City. He then joined the Faculty of Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC in 1989 where he established a research program in hepatic lipid metabolism, with a particular focus on the evolution and mechanisms of intracellular lipoprotein assembly and transport. Dr. Shelness has considerable experience in the area of peer review, including service as a member of the NIH Cellular Aspects of Diabetes and Obesity Study Section. Dr. Shelness left Wake Forest in 2014 at the rank of professor to join CSR.
