Dr. Alessandra Rovescalli holds a master’s degree in experimental endocrinology from the University of Milan, Italy, and a Ph.D. in pharmacology and toxicology from the Ministry for University and Scientific Research, Italy. She began her postdoctoral training at the Institute of Pharmacological Science, University of Milan, Italy, and then in Nobel Laureate Marshall Nirenberg’s laboratory at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, where she remained as a staff scientist for 12 more years. Throughout her career she conducted and published research in multiple neuroscience fields, including neuropharmacology (e.g., mechanisms of action of antidepressants. antipsychotics) neuroendocrinology (effects of neurotransmitters on the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonad axis), chronobiology (effect of antidepressants on circadian rhythms) and molecular/developmental neurobiology (identification of new transcriptional regulation of the embryonic nervous system).
