In 2015, Dr. Bynum joined the Center for Scientific Review (CSR) as a Scientific Review Officer within the AIDS and Related Research Integrated Review Group. In this role, she manages the review of social and behavioral science special emphasis panels. Prior to joining CSR, Dr. Bynum was an assistant professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biostatistics, Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. As an academician, her research program focused on improving cancer outcomes among vulnerable populations. This program involved addressing cancer health disparities among racial/ethnic minorities, the geographically isolated, the economically disadvantaged, those living with HIV/AIDS, and among military populations. Dr. Bynum received her BS in psychology from Florida A&M University and her MPH and PhD in health promotion from the University of South Carolina, Arnold School of Public Health. She received additional academic training as a postdoctoral fellow at Moffitt Cancer Center.
