Dr. Liliana N. Berti-Mattera received her Ph.D. in biochemistry at the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina) in studies aimed at characterizing the role of thyroid and growth hormones on brain development. She did her postdoctoral training at the University of Houston, studying lipid metabolism and peripheral nerve proteins abnormalities associated with diabetic and other neuropathies. Dr. Berti-Mattera then joined the faculty of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, where she became an associate professor. The main focus of her research was to explore molecular mechanisms involved in the development of neuropathy and neuropathic pain, agonist-mediated events in Schwann cells proliferation and differentiation and other complications associated with chronic diabetes.
