Dr. Meenakshisundaram Ananthanarayanan is an SRO in the Digestive, Kidney and Urological Sciences (DKUS) IRG. His expertise is in Hepatic/Gastrointestinal transporters. Before coming to CSR, he worked as a Senior Research Scientist in the Section of Digestive Diseases and Liver Center, Yale University School of Medicine. During this time, he researched the regulation of Inositol trisphosphate receptor type 3 expression in bile duct epithelial cells by miRNAs and transcription factors for which he was awarded an R56 funding by NIH. Prior to this position, he worked in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology as Associate Professor and Director at the Mount Sinai Medical Center, NY. He has worked for over two decades investigating the physiology and gene regulatory aspects of bile acid transporters in normal physiology and in cholestatic liver diseases. He has contributed significantly to the regulation of hepatic canalicular bile acid transporter gene by nuclear receptors.
