The Xenobiotic and Nutrient Disposition and Action [XNDA] Study Section reviews applications related to the disposition of xenobiotics and supraphysiologic (SP) levels of nutrients and non-nutrient chemicals, including pro-drugs and drugs, biopharmaceutical agents, alcohol, toxins, phytochemicals/ botanicals and the study of their pharmacological mechanisms of action in normal and pathological conditions primarily of the digestive, renal and genitourinary systems.
The List of Reviewers lists all present, whether standing members or temporary, to provide the full scope of expertise present on that date. Lists are posted 30 days before the meeting and are tentative, pending any last minute changes.
The membership panel is a list of chartered members only.
- Gastrointestinal, hepatic, renal, urological or multi-organ disposition and effects of xenobiotics, SP nutrients and non-nutrient chemicals including processes of absorption. biotransformation, distribution, toxicity and excretion.
- Structure-function relationships for enzymes/transporters/receptors involved in SP nutrient, non-nutrient chemicals and/or xenobiotic disposition and toxic effects.
- Role of genetics and genomics in disposition and effects of SP nutrients, non-nutrient chemicals and xenobiotics (e.g., pharmacogenetics, pharmacogenomics, toxicogenetics, toxicogenomics).
- Theoretical, mechanistic, and/or integrated studies of kinetics and/or dynamics of SP nutrients, non-nutrient chemicals and xenobiotics (e.g., pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, toxicokinetics and toxicodynamics).
- Interactions among xenobiotics (e.g., drug-drug interactions, nutrient-drug interactions, alcohol-drug interactions), involving disposition and response processes. In vitro and in vivo and computational approaches to study the molecular basis of these interactions.
- Effect of gut microbiome on bioavailability, metabolism and pharmacokinetics of drugs and xenobiotics.
- Mechanisms of action of xenobiotics, non-nutrient chemicals and SP nutrients, including pharmacological effects on the digestive system, renal, urological or multi-organ systems.
Shared Interests and Overlaps
Systemic Injury by Environmental Exposure (SIEE) There are shared interests with SIEE in studies of environmental and pharmacological induced toxicity and disease. Applications aiming to investigate the pharmacological-induced toxicity in the gastrointestinal, hepatic, renal and urological systems should be assigned to XNDA. Applications that focus on the mechanisms on how exposure to environmental pollutants/toxins contribute to chronic multi-organ diseases may be reviewed in SIEE.
Hepatobiliary Pathophysiology (HBPP) There are shared interests with HBPP in studies of hepatobiliary transport, liver injury and alcohol disease. Applications aiming to investigate alcohol-drug interactions and pharmacological-induced toxicity in the liver may be reviewed in XNDA. Applications that focus on the pathogenesis of alcoholic liver injury and other liver diseases may be reviewed in HBPP.
Cancer Prevention Study Section (CPSS) There are shared interests with CPSS in studies of evaluation of efficacy and safety of chemopreventive agents. Applications aiming to investigate the evaluation of efficacy and safety as well as in vitro and in vivo studies of drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics may be reviewed in XNDA. Applications that focus on mechanisms of nutritional prevention at the biochemical, molecular and cellular levels and effects of dietary factors on hormonal or chemical carcinogenesis may be reviewed in CPSS.
Drug Discovery and Molecular Pharmacology (DMP) There are shared interest with DMP in studies of new drug development and production. Applications aiming to investigate the metabolism, pharmacokinetics and mechanism of action of drugs may be reviewed in XNDA. Applications involving new molecular agents that are potentially useful in cancer therapy may be assigned to DMP.
There are shared interests with Nutrition and Metabolism in Health and Disease (NMHD) in studies of the effects of nutrients on the disposition of drugs and xenobiotics. Applications aiming to investigate the disposition of supraphysiologic (SP) levels of nutrients may be reviewed in XNDA. Applications with emphasis in the integrated effects of nutrients on physiological functions and their influence on disease may be reviewed in NMHD.
There are shared interests in cytochrome P450 chemistry with Macromolecular Structure and Function A (MSFA). Applications involving xenobiotic/drug metabolism are reviewed in XNDA. Applications involving primarily structure, function and mechanism of P450 enzymes are reviewed in MSFA.
