Dr. Michael Selmanoff received his Ph.D. in neurobiology, he then completed his postdoctoral training at the University of California, San Francisco, in the Reproductive Endocrinology Center. For the following 27 years, he was a faculty member in the Department of Physiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. There, he conducted basic research in reproductive neuroendocrinology and taught medical and graduate students. His NIH-sponsored research investigated the neuroendocrine regulation of prolactin and luteinizing hormone secretion from the anterior pituitary gland. The work focused on the physiological regulation of hypothalamic dopamine neurons controlling prolactin secretion, and the peptidergic gonadotropin releasing hormone neurons controlling luteinizing hormone secretion.
