Dr. Yu is a molecular cell biologist specializing in stem cell biology, holding a B.S. in genetics from Nankai University. She performed her graduate studies in the area of developmental biology and received her Ph.D degree from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Her postdoctoral work at the University of Maryland School of Medicine focused on actin cytoskeleton and cell membrane dynamics in stem cell proliferation and differentiation. She then led preclinical gene therapy studies in cardiovascular diseases including CAD, PAD and cardiac allograft vasculopathy at the Veterans Affairs Baltimore Medical Center. Subsequently, she joined the NIH Clinical Center, where she significantly contributed to the IND development, cGMP and clinical execution for multiple “First in Human” Phase I/II gene and cellular therapy clinical trials. Her contribution earned her multiple accolades, including the NIH Director’s Awards on Medical Science and the NIH Clinical Center CEO Award on Novel Gene and Cellular Therapies.
