Dr. Hamity received her Ph.D. in psychology and neuroscience from the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, where she studied a subpopulation of sensory neurons as potential muscle nociceptors. During her postdoctoral work at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa, she studied the role of Substance P in the rostral ventromedial medulla, a central relay nucleus for the bulbospinal pathway of nociception, in the development and maintenance of persistent pain after peripheral inflammatory injury. She also served as a research assistant professor at the Anesthesia department at the same institution, where she was the principal investigator of a research program investigating the mechanisms that mediate painful neuropathies.
