Dr. Santanu Banerjee received his Ph.D. in life sciences from Bose Institute, Calcutta, India and did a brief postdoctoral training at University of Rochester Medical Center (NY), working on the role of transcription factors on T-cell differentiation. From there, he to Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School for postdoctoral research on parathyroid hormone and its c-terminal receptors. After completing his postgraduate studies, Dr. Banerjee went on to become a research assistant professor at the University of Minnesota studying opioid pharmacology and role of gut and pulmonary microbiota in opioid or non-opioid mediated systemic inflammation. Prior to joining CSR, Dr. Banerjee was an assistant professor in Department of Surgery at the University of Miami, where he was studying the role of commensal microbiota and microbial metabolites in influencing disease-associated metabolic pathways in various inflammatory conditions, including obesity/diabetes, HIV/SIV infection and pancreatic cancer.
