Dr. Alok Mulky received a M.Sc. in microbiology from the University of Mumbai, India, studying bioremediation, enzymology, antibiotic production, biofilms, and strain improvement. He then received his Ph.D. in microbiology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham studying the molecular mechanisms and structural determinants underlying human immunodeficiency virus type-1 (HIV-1) reverse transcriptase dimerization. He then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Cancer Institute at Frederick studying intrinsic/innate immune factors and host co-factors involved in the HIV-1 lifecycle. Subsequently, he was a faculty member in the department of medicine at the University of Alabama, where he continued basic research on host factors involved in viral replication, strategic translational research for identifying small molecule inhibitors of virus-host interactions, and NK cell function and antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC) responses using HIV-1 clinical isolates and blood samples. Before becoming a Scientific Review Officer (SRO) at CSR, he worked as a contract SRO, supporting reviews in several CSR Integrated Review Groups and Divisions and helped with managing the review of RPG, DP2, Fellowship and SBIR/STTR grant applications. After joining the Immunology Integrated Review Group and before his current assignment, he managed the Immunology Fellowships and Academic Research Enhancement Award (AREA) recurring special emphasis panels.
