Dr. Alena Savonenko obtained her Ph.D. in behavioral neuroscience at the Lomonosov Moscow State University and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology, Warsaw, Poland. Later, she continued her post-doctoral education at the Johns Hopkins University. Eventually, she moved her lab to the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and rose through the ranks to an associate professor. While at Hopkins, Dr. Savonenko accumulated considerable expertise in genetic models of Alzheimer’s disease, autism, schizophrenia, and other neuropsychiatric disorders as well as drug discovery. She conducted multi-disciplinary research and developed numerous collaborations in areas such as PET studies of AD-related tracers, pediatric TBI, synaptic mechanisms of learning and memory and AI-based next-generation cognitive phenotyping. She received numerous grants from NIH, private agencies, and industry and throughout her scientific career published ~80 peer reviewed publications as well as numerous reviews and book chapters. Dr. Savonenko has also taught graduate courses in neurosciences and served on NIH and VA study sections.
