Dr. Victoria Virador received her Ph.D. from the University of California at Davis where she studied grape polyphenol oxidase, a ubiquitous enzyme that catalyzes oxidative browning. As a postdoctoral trainee at the NCI, Dr. Virador developed in-cell assays to study pigmentation modifiers, and coculture skin models to study the transfer of melanosomes from melanocytes to keratinocytes. Dr. Virador discovered a mesenchymal stem cell population in murine dermis which can expand in 3D cultures. As an NCI staff scientist, she studied chaperones in cellular death or survival, utilizing mouse and fly models. Before joining CSR, Dr. Virador was active in scientific review with European granting agencies and the European Commission. She was also a professor at Montgomery College, where her research efforts focused on studying organoids and wound healing. There she established a very successful program to teach the fundamentals of Scientific Research to underrepresented students.
