Dr. Vonda Smith is an Assistant Director in the Division of Receipt and Referral (DRR) at the Center for Scientific Review (CSR).
Prior to this position, she served as Scientific Review Officer(SRO) of the Small Business: Bioanalytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biophysics, and Assay Development Study Section at the NIH Center for Scientific Review (CSR) in the in the Interdisciplinary Molecular Sciences and Training (IMST) integrated review group (IRG) for 7 years. Earlier, she was the SRO primarily for the Enabling Bioanalytical and Imaging Technologies (EBIT) Study Section in the Biological and Macromolecular Biophysics (BCMB) IRG Group for 10 years. She co-chairs CSR’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, is CSR’s point person and liaison for R15 grants, and is a presenter for many of CSR’s outreach and training seminars. She also managed the review of research grants and complex mechanisms in Special Emphasis Panels. She received her Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from Emory University and held a research position at Hewlett Packard (HP) Lab/Agilent Technologies Labs in Palo Alto, California, where she created assays and performed spectral, chromatographic, and electrophoretic analyses of biomolecules.
