Dr. Abdelouahab Aitouche is the Scientific Review Officer for the CSR’s Physiology and Pathobiology of Organ Systems Study Sections. He coordinates the review process of various fellowship grant application mechanisms.
Dr. Aitouche did his undergraduate studies in his native country Algeria. He then graduated with a masters and Ph.D. in differentiation, genetics and immunology from Claude Bernard University, Lyon, France, before joining the Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute, University of Pittsburgh. There, he did his post-doctoral training in transplantation immunology and molecular biology. He then joined the University of Miami, where he was the Director of the Cardiothoracic Transplantation Research Laboratory (1998-2005). His main research interests were the immune tolerance to self antigens and organ transplants, and studied the cGMP system's involvement in vasculopathies associated with injury and/or aging. Dr. Aitouche began his association with CSR as a reviewer/consultant for a small business (SBIR) study section that evaluated applications for the development of novel cardiovascular devices.
