Dr. Vanessa Boyce received her Master’s degree in biology from Duquesne University and Doctoral degree in Neuroscience from Drexel University College of Medicine. She completed post-doctoral research at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and was also an associate of the International Research Consortium on Spinal Cord Injury of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation during that period. Her research focused on investigating the mechanisms by which neurotrophic factors, specifically brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and neurotrophin 3 (NT-3), promote the restoration of hind-limb locomotor function in animal models of paraplegia following spinal cord injury. Prior to joining the Center for Scientific Review, she worked as a Scientific Review Officer in the Scientific Review Branch at the National Institute of Neurological Diseases and Stroke.
