Dr. Bidyottam Mittra received a Ph.D. in biochemistry & molecular biology from the Jadavpur University in Kolkata, India, where he studied DNA replication in protozoan parasites and mechanisms of anti-parasitic therapeutics. He pursued his postdoctoral training in molecular microbiology at the University of California in Los Angeles studying gene expression in protozoan parasites. Before joining CSR, Dr. Mittra served as an assistant research professor at the University of Maryland, College Park, where he conducted NIH-funded research on host-pathogen interactions, studying iron metabolism and identification of virulence factors using the unicellular protozoan parasite Leishmania as a model organism.
