Dr. Aster Juan received her Ph.D. in developmental biology and embryology from Yale University and completed her postdoctoral training in the Laboratory of Muscle Stem Cell and Gene Regulation at the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS). Before joining CSR, she was a staff scientist at NIAMS where she conducted research on how chromatin modifying factors and non-coding RNAs/microRNAs control fate commitment of embryonic and skeletal muscle stem cells during normal development or under pathophysiological conditions. While at NIAMS, Dr. Juan served as an intramural representative on the trans-NIH Women of Color Committee of the Women in Biomedical Careers Working Group and taught stem cell workshops at the Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences (FAES) for Ph.D. students and postdoctoral trainees at NIH.
