Dr. Haru Murata earned his M.D./Ph.D. with dissertation research in Molecular Cell Biology from the Medical Scientist Training Program at Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Murata then pursued post-doctoral training in public health through the Cancer Prevention Fellowship Program (National Cancer Institute); as part of a fellowship requirement, Dr. Murata completed the Master of Public Health (MPH) curriculum at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He then took a position at the Food and Drug Administration as a staff fellow and progressed to a principal investigator role performing regulatory review of the manufacture of viral vaccines (including high priority COVID-19 vaccines) as well as leading laboratory research projects in virology and vaccinology. Prior to joining the Center for Scientific Review, Dr. Murata worked in the vaccine pharmaceutical industry (regulatory affairs) at GSK.
