Dr. Ortiz-Garcia holds a Ph.D. in cell biology from the Centro de Investigación y de Estudios Avanzados del IPN (Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute, Cinvestav), México, and an M.S. in biochemistry from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (National Autonomous University of Mexico, UNAM). Following her doctoral studies, she completed advanced postdoctoral training at the University of California, Los Angeles, specializing in the molecular genetics of human parasites. Prior to joining the Center for Scientific Review, she served as a senior scientist at Oregon Health & Science University, where she led research on the biological mechanisms of host-parasite interactions driving transmission, infection, and disease. Leveraging these specialized molecular and genetic frameworks, Dr. Ortiz-Garcia has significantly contributed to global health initiatives through the identification of novel drug candidates against major human pathogens, including Plasmodium, Leishmania, and Trypanosoma, and translating fundamental biological discoveries into potential therapeutic targets.
