Dr. Courtney Watkins received her Ph.D. in chemistry and biochemistry from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her graduate research focused on the enzymology of molybdenum-dependent proteins (molybdopterin oxidoreductases) and microbial nitrate reduction. After graduate school, she continued her research on molybdopterin oxidoreductases but transitioned to mammalian systems at the University of Pittsburgh with post-doctoral fellowship training in pulmonary and vascular medicine. Prior to joining CSR, Dr. Watkins held a faculty position at the University of Pittsburgh Vascular Medicine Institute. She led a research program centered on the role of molybdopterin oxidoreductases in nitric oxide signaling and metabolic dysfunction. Her research refined methodologies to measure nitric oxide flux kinetics using chemiluminescence and established novel preclinical models. Dr. Watkins was an active mentor and educator who led summer undergraduate research training programs.
