Dr. Feng received her Ph.D. in biophysics from Johns Hopkins University and completed postdoctoral training in genetics and developmental biology at Harvard Medical School. She took faculty positions at Northwestern University and then at Uniformed Services University. During her academic research period, Dr. Feng studied genetic disorders affecting cerebral cortex neurogenesis, genome stability, and heterochromatin regulation in cortical neurons, as well as neurovascular interaction in the brain with support from agencies including the NIH. She taught various graduate school and medical school courses, including neurobiology of diseases, cellular senescence and brain aging, brain metabolic disorders, glucose metabolism, and nucleotide metabolism. She also served on many NIH study sections before joining CSR.
