Dr. Katie Alexander completed her Ph.D. in immunology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in Birmingham, AL, where she studied homeostatic interactions between Immunoglobulin A (IgA), regulatory T cells (Tregs), and the microbiota. She remained at UAB for her postdoctoral studies, which focused on the mucosal immune system, particularly inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and mucosal cancers. As an assistant professor at UAB in the Department of Medicine and Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, her laboratory studied epithelial cell transformation in gastric and esophageal adenocarcinoma.
