Dr. Lisa DeRoo earned her Ph.D. in epidemiology from the University of Washington and her M.P.H. in international health from Emory University. Following her graduate work, she studied breast cancer and migrant health at the University of Geneva Hospitals, Geneva, Switzerland. She joined the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences as a staff scientist for the Sister Study, where she conducted research on the environmental and genetic risk factors for breast cancer and other women’s health conditions. She also worked at the University of Bergen, Norway, where she studied women’s reproductive health and long-term risk of cardiovascular disease using Norwegian national health registries. Prior to joining CSR, she served as a staff scientist in the Social and Behavioral Research Branch, National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), where she designed and implemented a natural history study of COVID-19 among African Americans in the greater Washington, D.C. area.
