Dr. Hernandez-Ochoa received an M.D. degree in general medicine and surgery and a Ph.D. degree in neurophysiology from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. During his postdoctoral training at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, he investigated the role of calcium signals and transcription factors on sympathetic neurons and skeletal muscle normal function as well as pathological mechanisms underlying rare neuromuscular diseases. Dr. Hernandez-Ochoa came to CSR from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where he was an assistant professor mentoring and teaching undergraduate and graduate students. He was principal investigator and co-investigator on multiple NIH grants and served as a reviewer for CSR and international funding agencies. Dr. Hernandez-Ochoa has experience in neuronal function, striated muscle pathophysiology, cancer, and human pluripotent stem cells. He was invited to present his research at elite national and international meetings and has published over 50 articles in biomedicine.
