Dr. Kan Ma received his Ph.D. in chemistry from Case Western Reserve University. He completed his post-doctoral training in muscle biology and proteomics at the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) in the Laboratory of Muscle Biology. He later served as director of the Analytical Laboratory at the Institute of Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery at Stony Brook University before returning to NIAMS. Prior to joining CSR, Dr. Ma spent nearly 19 years as a Scientific Review Officer (SRO) in the NIAMS Scientific Review Branch, where he oversaw the peer review of research center grants, training grants, multi-site clinical trial grants, and planning grants across musculoskeletal, rheumatic, muscle, and skin diseases. His service at NIAMS was recognized with two NIH Director’s Awards, seven NIH Merit or Group Merit Awards, and one NIAMS Director’s Award.
