Dr. Poonam Tewary earned her M.S. in biotechnology from Calicut University and her Ph.D. in molecular immunology and vaccine development from Jawaharlal Nehru University. She then joined the National Cancer Institute (NCI) as a postdoctoral fellow, identifying immune alarmins as effective vaccine adjuvants and advancing preclinical therapies for autoimmune conditions and cancer. After her postdoc, she transitioned to the Leidos Biomed Research Program at NCI as a scientist, where she researched cancer cell death mechanisms and chemotherapeutic drug combinations for sensitizing tumor cells to death ligands, leading to two patents. She continued her career at Leidos Biomed as a scientific project manager, overseeing contract proposals and providing technical review guidance. Prior to joining CSR, she was a scientific review officer at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), where she managed peer review panels of grant applications and contract proposals in various immunological and infectious disease research areas. She also served as the team lead for eRSS, an NIAID-developed review platform for contract reviews. Her extensive experience spans scientific research, project management, and contract and grant administration, contributing significantly to innovative therapeutic solutions and scientific review.
