Commander (CDR) Marcienne Wright, Ph.D., received her Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular genetics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she investigated the role of nitrated fatty acids in heme oxygenase-mediated prevention of vascular inflammation via DNA-protein interactions. She then completed a National Biosafety and Biocontainment Postdoctoral Fellowship at NIH and an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science and Technology Policy Fellowship in biosafety and biosecurity policy at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Prior to joining NIH, CDR Wright served as a lead scientific program officer at the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC), National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH), and Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), where she led multiple environmental health and toxicology extramural research portfolios investigating environmental determinants of disease.
