Dr. Ivan Navarro received his master’s degree from Moscow State University ‘M.V. Lomonosov’; later he received his Ph.D. in biomedical science from the National Autonomous University of Mexico ‘UNAM,’ where he developed non-viral vectors for targeted gene delivery to substantia nigra’s dopamine neurons in rodent brains. He then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Wesleyan University, CT, where he studied neurogenesis in the subventricular zone and hippocampus of rodent brains, and a second postdoctoral fellowship at Children’s Research Institute in Washington, D.C., where he continued studies of neurogenesis in the developing hippocampus and neocortex in rodent brains. Prior to joining the NIH, Dr. Navarro was a manager of clinical research and a senior scientist. Before his arrival to CSR, Dr. Navarro was an SRO at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD). He has previously managed NIDA-L ‘Drug development’ study section along with many special emphasis panels covering multiple scientific topics.
