This review panel evaluates SBIR/STTR applications focused on basic and clinical drug discovery for developmental cognitive disorders, psychiatric and mood disorders, eating and sleep disorders, and substance use disorders. Areas of emphasis include medicinal chemistry, preclinical therapeutic development, toxicology, and selected clinical studies designed to establish proof of principle for new therapies or for repurposing existing drugs. Therapeutic approaches reviewed by the panel include small molecules and biologics, including molecular engineering approaches, gene and stem cell therapies, and proteins or neuropeptides that modulate neuroreceptors, transporters, and signal transduction pathways.
