Dr. John H. Laity received his Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Cornell University. Dr. Laity then trained at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California specializing in biomolecular nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) applications in structural biology. He then took a faculty position at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), Division of Cell Biology and Biophysics where his NIH-funded research interests focused on zinc finger protein transcriptional mechanisms and their role in cellular zinc ion homeostasis. While at UMKC as both an assistant and associate professor, he trained interdisciplinary Ph.D. and Master’s degree students in the laboratory and taught multiple undergraduate and graduate courses including biophysics and critical scientific writing. During that time, he also directed the high field NMR core facility, reviewed for numerous scientific journals, and served as a standing member of the NIH Molecular Structure Function A study section.
