Dr. Barbara Mallon received her D.Phil. in biochemistry at the University of York, UK, where she studied signal transduction in glial cells. She then went to the Lerner Research Institute at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, where she completed her postdoctoral training in its department of neuroscience studying RNA stability of the myelin proteolipid protein in oligodendrocytes. After that, Dr. Mallon accepted a scientist position with a start-up biotechnology company focused on developing drug treatments for psychiatric disorders. From there, she joined the NIH intramural program as a staff scientist and founding member of the NIH Stem Cell Unit (SCU) -- a core facility dedicated to the study and characterization of human pluripotent stem cells. Dr. Mallon later became technical director of the SCU and has remained in that position until joining CSR.
