Dr. Cristina Bäckman received her early education in Sweden, Linköping university. She received her Ph.D. in neuroscience form the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver. Before joining CSR, she was an intramural researcher at the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Her laboratory focused on the generation and use of novel transgenic animal models to study the effects of drugs of abuse in dopaminergic neurons of the ventral midbrain, and the mechanisms leading to neurodegeneration in rodent models of Parkinson’s disease. Transgenic mice developed in her laboratory have been widely used within the research community for studying gene function in dopaminergic neurons, such as drug addiction, Parkinson's disease and Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). She also holds an MBA from the University of Phoenix.
