Dr. Anthony Chan received his veterinarian training at National Taiwan University and his Ph.D. in Endocrinology and Reproductive Physiology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he received training in assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs) and developed a gene transfer method to create transgenic animals. He completed his post-doctoral training at the Oregon National Primate Research Center at Oregon Health & Sciences University where he created the first transgenic rhesus macaque expressing the green fluorescent protein. Before joining CSR, he was the Core Scientist at the Yerkes National Primate Research Center and a Professor of Human Genetics at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. His NIH-sponsored research was focused on the development of the first transgenic nonhuman primate model of human inherited diseases including Huntington’s disease followed by a decade-long longitudinal clinical and molecular studies. He also developed stem cell models for studying neurological disorders, genetic anticipation in male germ cells, and cell and gene replacement therapy.
