Dr. Mariam Zaka obtained her Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from Thomas Jefferson University, where she studied the mechanism of myelin breakdown in Krabbe disease. She received postdoctoral training in the Department of Neurology at Thomas Jefferson University and investigated the protective role of IGF-1/MAPK signaling mechanism in myelination. She continued her postdoctoral training at the National Institute of Neurological Diseases and Stroke, where she studied the molecular cascades that regulate Tau phosphorylation during brain development. Prior to joining the Center for Scientific Review, she worked as a senior scientist and program manager at the Scientific Peer Advisory and Review Services Department of the American Institute of Biological Sciences, where she worked with various research funders to provide peer review process based on their individual needs.
