Biography

Division:
Division of Basic and Integrative Biological Sciences DBIB
Review Branch:
Bioengineering, Biodata, and Biomodeling Technologies BBBT

Dr. Andrea Gobin studied biomimetics and received her Ph.D. from Rice University. She obtained post-doctoral training in naturally derived biomaterials, specifically silk fibroin and emodin for muscular and skin tissue engineering applications, at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. She then continued her work at the University of Louisville, developing novel biomaterials derived from both synthetic and naturally derived materials for tissue engineering and drug delivery applications. Dr. Gobin’s work focused on PEG-based biomimetic silk fibroin, chitosan, emodin, and curcumin for vascular/cardiac and ophthalmologic tissue engineering, wound healing, and cancer drug delivery. At Texas Heart Institute, Dr. Gobin worked on cardiac tissue engineering applications using decellularized extracellular matrices. Prior to CSR, she worked at 3D Systems with a team on 3D-printed nephrology tissue engineering projects.
