Dr. Robin Thompson received a joint Ph.D. in cognitive science and linguistics from the University of California, San Diego. She has held research positions at the Salk Institute, San Diego State University, and University College London before taking on an Associate Professor role at the University of Birmingham, UK. Her research was related to the underlying nature of human language (both signed and spoken) and, in particular, how language is related to other aspects of cognition, such as perception and action systems. She was also involved in deafness-related research, including improving educational, accessibility, and reading outcomes.
