Dr. Jian Yang attained his Ph.D. degree in biochemistry from the Ohio State University, Columbus, where he studied RNA biology. After completing postdoctoral training on cholesterol metabolism in mammalian systems at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, he joined the faculty of the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, where he established his own research program on hepatic regulation of fatty acid metabolism, taught and mentored both medical and graduate students, and supervised a research group. He did one year of research on a sabbatical at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) and gained clinical research experience with patients with diabetes and obesity. Before joining CSR, he was a scientific review officer at NIDDK that managed complex reviews in the major subject areas of NIDDK and the chartered review committee DDK-F that reviews fellowship and mentored-career development applications in various areas of digestive diseases and nutrition, including gastrointestinal, liver, and pancreatic physiology and diseases, microbiome, and mucosal immunology.
