Integrative and Cognitive Neuroscience ICN

Dr. Kausik (Bobby) Ray received his Ph.D. in life sciences (cell, molecular, and developmental biology program) from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and his M.S. in cytology & genetics from the University of Calcutta, India. Dr. Ray did his first postdoctoral training at the Weis Center for Research, Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA, identified several human heterotrimeric G-protein gamma subunits, and studied G protein-coupled signal transduction pathways in heterologous cell lines and cardiac myocytes. Dr. Ray was a recipient of an American Heart Association postdoctoral fellowship and a National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) postdoctoral research training (PRAT) fellowship. He joined the Metabolic Diseases Branch of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) as a staff fellow, where he completed his postdoctoral research by identifying the drug/ligand-binding sites, allosteric modulations, and activation processes of the human calcium-sensing receptor, a heterotrimer G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR). Before joining CSR, Dr. Ray was a staff scientist at the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), leading structural-functional studies on calcium-sensing receptors, and published several senior author papers in peer-reviewed journals. He later joined the NIDCD Scientific Review Branch as a scientific review officer, where he served for fourteen years and remained in that position until joining CSR.
