Cancer Diagnosis, Prevention & Therapeutics CDPT

Dr. Robert Gahl received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Cornell University. His graduate research examined the folding pathways of structural homologs within the ribonuclease family of proteins, using numerous bioanalytical techniques. Dr. Gahl’s findings identified the earliest events in the formation of protein structure as predicted by the folding theory of initiation sites. He then continued postdoctoral training at the Laboratory of Molecular Biophysics in NIH. His postdoctoral research focused on identifying structural events with the Bcl-2 family of proteins as they regulate apoptosis using live-cell FRET measurements. These findings refined the model for apoptosis regulation to identify novel Bcl-2 modulators that build upon the cancer therapy, , Venetoclax. Prior to joining CSR, Dr. Gahl served as a scientific review officer at the National Cancer Institute (NCI). His review management portfolio includes topics such as cancer biomarkers, translational and clinical research, early and late phase clinical trials, and cancer screening.
