Dr. Varsha Shukla holds a Ph.D. in neurochemistry from J. W. Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany. She conducted her postdoctoral research at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), studying the role of kinases in neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer’s disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), and others. After a productive postdoctoral tenure, she moved to extramural research administration as a Scientific Review Officer (SRO) at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), where she managed the peer review of grant applications across a wide range of mental health research, including those responsive to the NIH BRAIN Initiative. Prior to joining CSR, Dr. Shukla served as deputy branch chief at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) review branch. In this role she supervised research project applications submitted in response to cutting-edge initiatives, managed branch operations, and mentored new SROs. Additionally, she coordinated the Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) Standing Study Section that reviewed multi-component NIEHS Core Center (P30) and training (T32/T35) grants.
