Dr. Shinako Takada received her Ph.D. in basic medical science from the University of Tokyo in Japan, where she studied mechanisms of hepatitis B virus-induced hepatocarcinogenesis. Her post-doctoral research in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California, Berkeley, included studies on eukaryotic RNA polymerase I, II, and III based transcription. Before she joined NIH as a scientific review officer, she was a tenured associate professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, where her laboratory studied regulatory mechanisms of RNA Polymerase II transcription from non-canonical (TATA-less) promoters.
